Well... I think it’s safe to say that trail running season is officially over here in the mountains. Getting back into running has been an unexpected silver lining of this year. If I’m lucky then I will have a few more weeks of rural road running and then I’ll be moving many of my workouts inside. I don’t mind the transition of the seasons though. I love how it helps keep movement and exercise interesting and fresh.
Because of my plans to hike the Pacific Crest Trail this last summer (which will now be either in 2021 or 2022 depending on permits) I have spent this last year testing out more brands of shoes than ever before. It’s been interesting to see how shoes I thought were comfy for 5-6-mile hikes end up giving me blisters at around mile 15. Eventually, I landed on a pair of Brooks Cascadia and I haven’t got another blister since then. I even hiked my 8-day, 180-miles thru-hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer in them.
Needless to say, I’ve become a huge fan of the brand and, as the seasons and my activities change, I’ve decided to test out some other styles that better fit my road running or indoor fitness needs. I recently ordered the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 running shoes from Zappos and they are exactly what I needed. Super comfy and lightweight. Great for running on road or hitting the gym. Zappos has honestly been my saving grace through this whole experience because I could try different styles/sizes with free shipping if you are a Zappos rewards member and free returns. I actually learned through the process that I am a half-size bigger than I’ve been ordering for the last 5 years lol.
While I will miss my summer days out on the trail, I am really excited to get into a good fitness/training routine this winter. I just started a new workout program and I can already tell that it is going to kick my butt in the best possible way. Does anyone else get excited about starting a new routine?
